Reflection Blog: costume design, The Wiz

  1. Before attempting this assignment i thought the hardest part would be incorporating my style into the characters of my play style. This would be hard because i didnt want to change them up too much.
  2. After completing it, I now think the most difficult part to accomplish was actually bringing everything together and making my audience actually  see that the characters were from the wiz. I had to make sure the characters were not mine but my plays.
  3. The most important thing I learned from this activity is do not try to do anything last minute. You may think its easy but it takes time.
  4. The most surprising or interesting thing I learned from this activity is your presentation really matters. So make it fun not boring or your audience wont be interested.
  5. The aspect of my work on this activity that I am most satisfied with is that i had fun doing it and you can very much tell. I didnt just throw anything together.
  6. The aspect of my work on this activity that I am least satisfied with is I could have spent more time making my art perfection. It would have made a huge impact on the outcome and look of my display.

Playwright Project

Before attempting this activity, I thought the most difficult part to accomplish would be coming up with an idea.  It took a lot of brainstorming, but I did it.  After completing it, I now think the most difficult part to accomplish was coming up with an endingand a beginning that actually made sense.  It was hard,  butnot impossible.  The most important thing I learned from this activity is that everything takes patience, focus, and determination.  The most surprising or interesting thing I learned from this activity is that writing a play is harder than I thought.  I have to hand it to Shakespeare, he was incredibly talented.  The aspect of my work on this activity that I am most satisfied with is with the storyline.  I felt that it was strong.  The aspect of my work on this activity that I am least satisfied with is the opening scene of the play.  I felt that it was very weak.  I wish I could have done better.

4th quarter project reflection blog post

The Star-Spangled Girl by Neil Simon & Saint Joan by Bernard Shaw

1.) Before attempting this activity, I thought the most difficult part to accomplish would be how to block during my performance. I knew I had a habit of crossing my legs or twisting my hair, I didn't want to look weird just standing there and reciting my monologues. Once i tried to figure some blocks out, it was actually harder than i thought, I couldn't figure out where to put my hands or do with my legs either.

2.) After completing it, I now think the most difficult part to accomplish was memorizing the monologues. At first, I didn't think it'd be a big deal just reciting it but it was considering the fact that it had to be at least 5 minutes with a bunch of people staring straight at you. I'm not afraid to mess up, because it happens, but I didn't want to be one of those people that freak out in the middle of their performance and just stop. Even though I forgot my lines a couple of times, I just picked myself back up and kept going, which I think is the important part.

3.)The most important thing I learned from this activity is that I should never underestimate how difficult of easy an assignment is. It was harder than I thought to memorize and perform two monologues. I was proud of myself for at least getting up in front of the class and trying my hardest, considering the fact that i learned both monologues in two days. I learned that it is also important to not show that you messed up. Once you make it noticeable that you messed up at something, people become bored and frustrated and I didn't want to be that person. I noticed this when other people in my class messed up. They announced it to the whole class and I immediately got frustrated and bored.

4.)The most surprising or interesting thing i learned from this activity is how well i do something when i really try. If it were up to me, I never would of got in front of my classmates for any reason at all. Even though i forgot some of my lines performing my monologues, I think I acted pretty well. I think my projection was pretty good and I believe I stayed in character the whole time. I knew that I wouldn't of even dared to do that in front of anyone and I was proud I finally had the guts to do it.

5.)The aspect of my work on this activity that I am most satisfied with is my courage to stand in front of an audience and perform. I know I wouldn't of done it before I took acting class. I am also most satisfied with how I almost got all my lines correct, besides that I believe I stayed in character the whole time and I made my performance seem believable.

6.)The aspect of my work that I am least satisfied with is my blocking. I know the lack of blocking took away from my performance because it didn't make it seem 100% believable without it. I am also least satisfied with how I forgot my lines in the middle of my monologue and I made it noticeable. Even though I mentioned earlier how important it is not to show you messed up, I admit I did and that it was a mistake I shouldn't of done. I know it would of got me the "A" I was looking for, but I'm fine with the grade I received.

4th quarter project reflection blog

                                             Jessica Sneed  4th Quarter Project

*Before attempting this project I thought the most difficult part would be actually singing in front of the class because I was really nervous at first. When I actually did my performance I was not scared at all I was calm the whole time. Maybe part of my calmness came from the class looking empty when we did our performance.
*After completing I now think the most difficult part to accomplish was picking the correct song. My group changed songs at least three times. We had to try and find a song that would sound good with everybody's voice. The Dreamgirls song that we had choose previously was way to high.
*The most important thing I learned form this activity is that everybody can't be the boss. Sometimes you just have to sit and listen to people because if you don't it can cause lots of conflict and drama like what happened in my group.I also learned that you have to get along with your teammates because if you do the end result will be very good.
*The most surprising or interesting thing I learned from this activity is that one of my teammates can sing very good. She sings in the choir at her church. So in our group we thought that she would be just perfect for the lead and she actually was GREAT!
*The aspect of my work that i'm most satisfied with is my ability to stand in front of the class and sing without me getting nervous at all. Usually when I do scenes I get really nervous, but it's just something about doing a song that really didn't make me nervous at all and i'm very proud of myself for that boldness.
*The aspect of my work that i'm least satisfied with is be not being able to communicate with some of my teammates I regret that. I believe that my group would have done much better if  we had better communication with each other.

Reflection Post (4th quarter project)

COSTUME DESIGN.

Before attempting this activity, I thought the most difficult part to accomplish would be: It was the thought of designing the costume or a piece because I dont know anything about building a costume.
After completing it, i thought that the most difficult part to accomplish was: The drawing its self because I didn't know what to do where on the drawing. I knew what colors but I didn't quiet know what shades to use for them.
The most important thing that i learned from this activity was that : It's not as easy as everyone including myself thought it would be.

The most surprising thing that i learned from this assignment was that : I can draw better then what I imagined in the first place and everything came out nice.

The aspect of my work that i am most satisfied with is: I am most satisfied with one of my designs because I put the most work in it because it was my favorite character.

The aspect of my work that i am least satisfied with is: The fact that I didn't do an actual design because I was caught up on other work but that wasn't an excuse anyway. Other than that I think I did pretty good.

Reflection Blog-May- 4th Quarter Project

1. Before attempting this activity, I thought the most difficult part to accomplish would be to have enough ideas in order to finish the play. It is hard to try to keep the play interesting and on topic. While writing, you can easily have many ideas and change the topic as you go along in the story.
2.After completing it, I now think the most difficult part to accomplish was writing the ideas in order. While writing, I wrote down a couple of ideas and could not figure out how to elaborate on them. Having too many ideas at once can interfere with what you write and ends the play fast.
3.The most important thing I learned from this activity is that you can write about anything. As long as you have a basic idea, you can expand on it and write in the details. For play write, you don't need many ideas and subjects because you can just write about one thing and add many interesting facts.
4.The most surprising or interesting thing I learned from this activity is that it really isn't hard to write a play as long as you enjoy reading and writing. Ideas for plays can be easy to talk about and you can ask your friends to help as well. Play write is something you can do alone or with friends and it can be very general.
5.The aspect of my work on this activity that I am most satisfied with is I completed the play. I have written other plays but never finish them and I thought it would be the same for this one. Every other play I wrote were a cliff hanger and run out of ideas. At the beginning I thought that I would not finish and get a bad grade but I ended up completing it.
6.The aspect of my work that I am least satisfied with is at the end of the play where I could have added more details to it instead of just ending it quickly. I think that I should add more scenes and more detail during the scene of the characters talking about the plan.

Reflection Blog on 4th Qr Project

  1. Before attempting this activity, I thought the most difficult part to accomplish would be to get our group to preform are one and actually feel like we are in Rocky Horror Picture Show. It took a while for the group to step out of our comfort zones but in the end we gave it and worked as a group and it turned out to be an awesome performance.
  2. After completing it, I now think the most difficult part to accomplish was working to get out of our comfort zones because the dances were a little bit racy and the duet dance in the middle was really hard to teach to a person who had tap experience and that was a doozy
  3. The most important thing I learned from this activity to always work my hardest to achieve something because we all thought the class was going to think our performance was lame but when we heard them singing along and dancing with us we really knew we did well
  4. The most surprising or interesting thing I learned from this activity is that just because something is old doesn't mean that its boring and since Rocky Horror was so old we didn't know if the class would enjoy it as much as they would hairspray or lion king but in the end we realized sometimes old is better
  5. The aspect of my work on this activity that I am most satisfied with is how we all worked together because even though we didn't all give 150% we all over came our differences, obstacles , and own person limits for this performance.
Reflection Blog

1. Before attempting this activity I thought the most difficult part to accomplish would be creating a costume that would portray the timeline I was working with. However, it really took a lot of research to make sure that everything I gathered was from the 60's.
 2. After completing everything to do with the research, I realized that the most difficult thing to accomplish was making the outfits to match my vision. Sometimes the outfit I would think about in my head, would not automatically fit the looks of the 60's.
 3. The most important thing I learned from this activity was that, you must conduct research on everything before you go out and start putting your creations together. I have also learned that it takes a lot of work and dedication to accomplish a goal.
 4. The most surprising or interesting thing I learned from this activity is that I have very good skills at designing things. I thought I would do pretty badly, but everyone who saw my designs afterwards, were very impress with all the work.
 5. The aspect of my work on this activity that I am most satisfied with is completing and achieving my goal, while at the same time educating myself about the other wonderful events that happened in the 60's. Also, making the goals believable to match the amazing outfits.
 6. The aspect of my work on this activity that I am least satisfied with was initially having to drag my Mom to five different stores before we found the board I needed to design, that would correspond with the outfits I created.

Reflection Post: Garbage Bag Costume

1. Before attempting this activity, I though the most difficult part to accomplish would be to come up with an idea good enough to beat everyone else, and to use all of the required materials at one time! And some of the materials, such as the toilet paper, were very delicate, so you had to be careful not to put them by the wire hangers, unless you wanted them somehow to poke through. And how to use the tape without it showing too much. COMPLICATED! And from all the chatter I was hearing, everyone had brilliant ideas brewing.

2. After completing it, I now think the most difficult part to accomplish was making our idea a reality. First off, the design was a little complicated, so to figure out how to take it from the paper to reality I though would prove to be difficult. There was layering of different sized blown balloons, and wire hanger shoulders to somehow make comfortable on a person. And the shape of the person played a little bit of a part of that; the way you imagined the trash bag to look may not have been how it actually turned out. So there were little adjustments to be made last minute, but it turned out really cool.

3. The most important thing I learned from this activity was to be patient while you're working in a group with a time limit. There were so many things to be done, and everyone was rushing to get it done, but then there's only so much space you can work in and I had to learn how to cooperate with some of the people in my group. We were all watching the minutes tick by, and hurrying to tape the last toilet paper on, or re-adjust the wire hanger shoulders, or to fix the trash bag which was slipping on one shoulder.

4. The most important surprising or interesting thing I learned from this activity is that everyone is really creative, you just have to maybe give them a little push, or incentive, to do so. One young lady in my group who was always very quite, volunteered a wonderful drawing, and to be honest, I didn't think she had this kind of talent in her. But she surprised me, and I saw that I didn't give her enough credit to begin with. So I got to learn a little bit more about the people in my class, as well as see some really awesome ideas.

5. The aspect of my work on this activity that I am most satisfied with is the end product. The design ended up coming out quite nicely, and close to the original and knowing the work it took to get there makes it all the better. My group got 3rd place in the class, and I liked the chance to get a little closer with some classmates as well as create a spectacular costume out of just garbage bags, toilet paper, and balloons.

6. The aspect of my work on this activity that I am least satisfied with is that I think, even with the time constraints, I could have been a little less bossy to get things done. Not everyone was working at the same time and there was a lot to be done, but everyone was contributing, and I thought I could have been a lot more lenient on everyone.

May Reflection Blog:Duet Scenes

Before attempting this activity, I thought the most difficult part to accomplish would be being able to come up with how my partner and I will act out the scene. Its difficult working with people because you have to stress to them the fact that this is both or your grades and you have to make sure that you stay in character and that you portray yourself as a good actor/actress. It puts a lot of stress on you especially if you know your part well and your partner doesn't. Also if that person doesn't care about how they perform.
2. After completing it, I now think the most difficult part to accomplish was working with that particular person. Usually when you do scenes with people, you always want to do it with your friends. However in my opinion, I think if you want a good grade, pick someone that you know is passionate about performing and is willing to do their best. The person that I was with was ok but I felt like as group we could have done much better and that I was alone because I cared about how I perfomed and thay didn't really.
3. The most important thing I learned from this activity is to always stay in character. When you stay in character it allows you to do better in your performance and to let things go more smoothly. Yea somtimes you may do something wrong and it may catch you off guard, and depending on what exactly what you did, you may get mad or laugh, but if you stay focused you can block out all the negative things that are happening around you. It can also allow you to be able to let others see that you are able to handle anything that is thrown at you.
4. The most surprising or interesting thing I learned from this activity is that you should choose scenes that you are comfortable with. The scenes that I chose at the moment were short and ok. But when my partner and I actually acted them out it was a different vibe. The way that we practiced it went quite well. But when it came time to perform them it went into a different vibe. We messed up a few times and the way that we performed it could habe been much better.
5. The aspect of my work on this activity that I am most satisfied with is that I tried. There are times when you do scenes and you may do well in one and not the other. Im not perfect but I felt that since I gave it my all, I still felt accompished. But what i'll have to do is make sure that I am comfortable with my partner and the scene that  I am doing so I know that I did well.
6. The aspect of my work on this activity that I am least satisfied with is how I performed. When I practiced my scene it wasn't hard on how I was going to act it out. But when I went in front to do it, I got a little bit nervous and I messed up. I didn't like how I came about to do my character. I know I could have done better and my partner as well. But since it was a mistake,I can learn from it, so if I do scenes ever again, I know what to do and what not to do.

Reflection blog post :: costume design

The part I thought would be the hardest part of the costume design was getting the outfit made in time because we only had like 30 min. but the actual hard part was putting everything together and making it look good. The most important thing I learned was to spread amongst your group so that everything would be done in time. The most interesting part was working with the tape and trying to make those little strips hold your masterpiece together. I'm very satisfied that my group won 2nd place!!! I'm least satisfied with the fact that mrs.gittings said our outfit was too short :(

Reflection post: Garbage costume design

  1. Before attempting this activity, I thought the most difficult part to accomplish would be the costume it self, but I thought wrong. It was actually really easy but yet fun to accomplish.
  2. After completing it, I now think the most difficult part to accomplish was the design on paper that we did in class. I couldn't even think what in the world to come up with to do but then I did something simple but yet not to simple.
  3. The most important thing I learned from this activity is to work with other people in my group and to do different activities. It was a really fun experience to do with others.
  4. The most surprising or interesting thing I learned from this activity is that sometimes when you work together things come out looking better then working on your own. It would of taken me forever to do the costume on my own. I don't even think I would of finished it in thirty minutes by myself.
  5. The aspect of my work on this activity that I am most satisfied with is that it was something chill and calm to work on. Also, the fact that we had to be creative with all of our work.
  6. The aspect of my work on this activity that I am least satisfied with is that I think we should of worked on it a little longer. Other than that I think it was just fine the way everything went.

Improve

1. Before attempting this activity, i thought the most diffcult part to accomplish would be...
- Remembering the lines to me beacuse I know how hard it is to remembers lines form when I was doing the WIZ, studying day in and day out.

2. After completing it, I now think the most difficult part to accomplish was...
-The line remembering that was hard and i still messed up my partner did good but i still messed up.

3. The most important thing I learned from this activity is...
- To come up with things on the spot and often using your imaganation, and to come up with things on the spot have to how really good Ideas also.

4. The most suprising or interesting thing I learned from this activity is...
- I was suprise to see how some people step out of their box and out of their shell to give amazing performaces, trying their best to get the job done. they were really funny and intrusting to see and grow to love.

5. The aspect of my work on this activity that I am most satisfied with is..
- Im unique and very out their as mrs. gettings knows already about me as i am alway acting in her class!

6. The aspect of my work on this activity that I am least satisfied with is..
My LINES they just will not stay, they are not all that!, Its really BAD! But if i work at it, I know I'll will do better!

Garbage Bag Project

This activity was a very entertainig for me.  I really enjoyed it.  Before attempting this activity, I thought the most difficult part to accomplish would be making the dress look similar to the design in the picture.  We picked my design for it was far less complicated to create.  We used Samari as our model.  After completing it, I now think the most difficult part to accomplish was trying to stick to the design and still making the dress look decent.  Some parts of the dress looked exactly like the picture, however, some parts looked nothing like it.  The most important thing I learned from this activity is that anything is possible as long as one puts his/her mmind to it.  I didn't think that we could actually create a costume using garbage bags, ballons, tape, contruction paper, toilet paper, and a wire hanger.  It actually easier than i had imagined.  The most surprising thing I learned from this activity is that creativity is the key to success.  I was so worried on the difficulty of the taskm while Noel and Sameika's group created a fabulous dress that won first place.  The aspect of my work on this activity that I am most satisfied with is th fact that I can create a dress so lvely using what seems like useless house objects.  We were blessed with creativity on this activity.  The aspect of my work on this activity that I am least satisfied with is that we did not win.  I felt like we could have done better.

Garbage Bag Design Project

1. Before attempting this activity, I thought the most difficult part to accomplish would be to come up with the concept of how our dress was going to look like. I try to be creative but I'm just not one of those people that has a creative mind, I don't really know how to draw either, so I didn't know if my design would be the perfect fit.
2.After completing it, I now think the most difficult part to accomplish was making sure that the items on the outfit didn't fall off. The tape that we used was pretty strong so it basically kept everything in place. However there was certain times where I thought that something would fall off such as the hanger. We put two hangers up on our model shoulders, and I thought that it would bend a little, but for the most part it stayed in place.
3.The most important thing that I learned from this activity is that no matter what type of material you have, you can make it out if something. When my teacher first told me about making a costume design out of garbage bags, the first thing I thought was "How the heck". But once she showed us pictures of them, it didn't seem hard after that. It actually gave me ideas and made the assignment easier.
4. The most surprising or interesting thing I learned from this activity is that when you work together as a team, you can definately put things together at a faster pace then working by yourself. Each one of my team members and I each had certain things that we dealt with. For example, one of my team members was in charge of taping everything together, another was in charge of holding the outfit together, others has to create a purse, etc.
5. The aspect of my work on this activity that I am most satisfied with is that my team won. There was one person in my group who knew exactly how the dress was going to look, and where the items were going to be put at. At times I wasn't really sure where we could put things at such as the balloons, hangers, and construction paper. But that person knew, and since he knew it made everything flow together and made the dress look successful. Winnig the competition was a very good feeling. If I could do it again, definately would.
6. The aspect of my work on this activity that I am least satisfied with is nothing. I can honestly say that everything went well. The concept, the way the dress was designed, who our model was, and where the ballons and other items went. My team did a phenomenal job and I couldn"t help but thank every last one of them for making this group assignment one of the best things we did during this school year!!!!

Duet Scenes

1. Before attempting this activity, I thought the most difficult part to accomplish would be to actually get up to rehearse with my partner. We both have a lot of after school activities and don't have much time. In addition to that, even though we have time in class, we usually use it to help each other memorize lines since we are both "shy".
2.After completing it, I now think the most difficult part to accomplish was staying in character while performing. I usually don't like speaking in front of the class and act out, but I'm working on it. When I'm on stage acting, I usually get nervous and just perform absentmindedly.
3.The most important thing I learned from this activity is to play out my character and add a little humor now and then to keep the audience entertained. Also, I think I should actually look up at the audience from time to time instead of just avoiding eye contact from the audience.
4.The most surprising or interesting thing I learned from this activity is that depending on how each person plays the character it can be expressed in a similar or a completely different way. It is interesting to know all the different ways a character can be portrayed and acted out.
5.The aspect of my work on this activity that I am most satisfied with is that I stayed in character and controlled my voice better. In most of my performances, my voice gets high pitched and squeaky, but I did a better job at trying to use my normal talking voice.
6.The aspect of my work on this activity I am least satisfied with is that it felt as if I haven't played my character to the best of my ability because I get nervous. When I tried to make it funny, I end up getting out of character and forgetting my lines. I think that being nervous, prevents me from playing the character out and that It doesn't seem real.

4th quarter assignment

Garbage Bag Costume Design

1.) Before attempting this activity, I thought the most difficult part to accomplish would be trying to figure out a cool design to model, I know there is a lot of creative kids in my class, so i knew i had some competition.
2.) After completing it, I now think the most difficult part to accomplish was getting the model ready on time and making sure everything was in place and looked good. The most stressful part was losing everything because there were so many supplies flying around and my team lost almost everything we had.
3.) The most important thing I learned from this activity is that communication is key. Its important to talk to other team members so the job can get done faster and better. I really think it helped my communication skills even though it was hard to decide on something all the team members wanted.
4.) The most surprising or interesting thing I learned from this activity is how well something gets done when everyone works together. Even though my group got 3rd place, I was proud that we got everything done and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. It was also surprising how the other groups designs were better than i expected.
5.) The aspect of my work on this activity that I am most satisfied with is how creative I can be when I really put my mind to something. This activity really got me thinking about how I can make my model the best out of all of them and I learned that when I'm competing with other people, I give everything I've got into my work.
6.) The aspect of my work on this activity that I am least satisfied with is the sloppy-ness of the model, garbage bags are not that cute. My models garbage dress came out to be too short and too tight and of course I was a little upset when my team didn't win.

Plies Song Dedicated To Trayvon Martin

The rapper Plies dedicated a heart warming song to Trayvon Martin. His lyrics really touched over a million listeners. He explained that he was very hurt about trayvons situation. Also that that could have been someone he loved. I love these lines from his song. "I never thought that wearing no hoodie, could cause you your life.
and i never thought you could kill somebody and get out on the same night." These words are soo very true. Justice needs to be served. Plies song WE ARE TRAYVON is really raising awareness. The black community needs to help do the same thing. If we dont this will continue to happen.  You never know when someone close to you will go through the same thing. So never say that it cant be you. The contribute the rapper plies made to trayvon will always live on. The same way that Trayvon will always live on. And hopely justice will be served and this situation could make a long lasting effect on history. So help raise awareness. If you havent heard Plies new song "We Are Trayvon," you should. It is really moving.
