The Hunger Games- Are you excited?

The phenomenom that has been rising through the nation is the Hunger games. The three part saga is about a young girl named Katniss Everdeen, who has to go on a long journey to show how brave and how much courage she really has. The society is known as a dystopia, where the society is based on human misery, opression, disease and overcrowding. It just so happens that this society has something called the Hunger games that is put on by the government every year. The government chooses two tributes-a boy and girl, from each of the 12 districts, to be brought out into an arena; where all 24 tributes will fight to the death until there is only one tribute standing. This is to remind the country not to rebel – and for entertainment, of course. This year, unfortunately, Katniss's little sister is selected for the Hunger Games, so Katniss volunteers to take her place. Also selected is Peeta Mellark, the baker's son, who maybe has a teensy tiny crush on Katniss. Yet, it turns out Katniss has a life long friend named Gale who she happens to have feelings for her as well. After the reaping (that's the tribute selection process), Katniss and Peeta are whisked away to the Capitol to prepare for the Games (and primped for live TV). When the games finally begin, Katniss is forced to work alone but when she finds out Peeta has teamed up with the career tributes it is time for her to take action. She teams up with Rue, a District 7 tribute and they fight through 12 other tributes until half of the tributes are still standing. One day another tribute kills Rue and Katniss is alone, so she thinks. She finds Peeta injured in the river, and while everyone else at home is watching from the public televisions; they decide to use this at therir advantage. They start to pretend to be a couple in love and go throught the next few days as boyfriend and girlfriend. This works for them , sponsors start sending them food and supplies to remain alive, and well. By this time the announcers come on and say that if their are 2 tributes left and they are from the same district then they will both be pronounced the winners.
Eventually, Katniss and Peeta must face off with Cato, the only other surviving tribute, but before that they are all pursued by wild dogs which are actually genetically mutated killing machines. Finally, Katniss shoots Cato and he falls into the pack. They've won, right? Wrong. An announcer comes back on and says the rules have changed back: only one winner allowed.
Katniss and Peeta can't kill each other, so they make a show of taking poisonous berries in an act of double suicide. Fortunately, the announcer comes back on before they can kill themselves, and says that they win. Woo-hoo! They defeated the Hunger Games! Or wait…did they?
Katniss and Peeta keep up the star-crossed lovers routine for the post-games reunion and interview, knowing that this is the only way to keep from being punished by the Capitol for the rebellious trick with the poisonous berries. Eventually Katniss figures out that Peeta really is in love with her – he wasn't acting at all – and he figures out that she wasn't ever in love with him. Oops. As the train pulls into District 12, they put on a happy face for the camera, take each other's hands and step onto the platform. What will happen in the second book?
