Dean and Sam Winchester are hunters. They hunt and kill demons for a living. After their mother died when Sam was 6 months old their father went and became a hunter. Then the father when Sam turned 24 and went to hell.
At 23, Sam realized he had powers. He had visions of when people were going to die by being killed by demons. They hunted down all the people that had powers like Sam. The man with the yellow-eyes(a demon) had plans for all those special powered people with powers like Sam. So the man with the yellow-eyes put all the "special" people in an abandoned village to kill each other. Sam ended up dying and so did eveyone else.
Sam was then brought back a few hours later because Dean sold his soul to a demon for Sam, so Sam could live. Dean only got 1 more year to live before the hellhounds(demonic dog like creatures that drag you down to Hell) took Dean to Hell. Dean was then taken out of Hell by an Angel named Castiel.
Later on in the show Castiel beame buddies with Sam and Dean. They became people that they called on once they needed help. Castiel then became obsessed with trying to kill Rafeal. So he ended up sucking up all the demons from Purgatory(even the bad mofo's from way before B.C). And he ended up taking out Rafeal but also took out himself.
