"Martin Luther King Jr" period 6th

Born on January 15, 1929 Atlanta, Ga. U.S.—died April 4, 1968 Memphis, Tenn). Baptist minister and social activist who led the civil rights movement in the United States from the mid-1950s until his death by assassination in 1968. His leadership was fundamental to that movement's success in ending the legal segregation of African Americans in the South and other parts of the United States. King rose to national prominence as head of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, which promoted nonviolent tactics, such as the massive March on Washington (1963), to achieve civil rights. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964. This signified that he was just tring to obtain freedom for the african americans and also trying to make peace. Because segregation was a bad thing that led to disaster. Blacks were not alot to do alot of things in some of the most racist states. Slavery was igniated which means blacks were force to do work labor for the rich white people. Dr.Martin Luther King Jr was a brave man that was not scared of anything at all and just wanted to do whats right and fair to the rest of ther people. He inspires alot of young black people to show them that nothing isnt possible to achieve. It also show that we deserve to be treated equally to then white people and hown it shouldnt be anymore segregation. Michael King, Sr. stepped in a pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church upon the death of his father-in-law in 1931. He too became a very successful minister and adopted the name Martin Luther King, Sr. in honor of the German Protestant religious leader Martin Luther. In due time, Michael, Jr. would follow his dad’s lead and adopt the name himself. This only shows how humble this man was and how he wanted to be a minister like his father-in-law so therefore he followed in his foot steps. He was surely a great positive man. Because of him segregation has come to an end. There has been other people who stepped up to the plate to stop segregation aswel. Such as Rosa Parks, Abraham Lincoln, and John F kennedy. These were also people who wanted peace. This brings tears to my eyes knowing what these people did just to stop slavery and make the world a better place for peacer between each and every race. http://www.biography.com/people/martin-luther-king-jr-9365086
